Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese will serve as the producer for a compelling new documentary that includes an exclusive on-camera interview with Pope Francis. This interview was conducted at Vatican City in December, just a few months before the pope’s passing at the age of 88.
The documentary, titled “Aldeas — A New Story”, focuses on the global cultural initiative spearheaded by Scholas Occurrentes. This worldwide educational movement was founded by Pope Francis in 2013, coinciding with the year he ascended to the papacy. The initiative aims to unite communities across the globe in crafting scripts for short films that celebrate their unique identities, rich histories, and core values.
Excerpts from the insightful dialogue between Pope Francis and Scorsese will be seamlessly integrated into the film, which is currently without a specified release date.
