Discover Markel’s latest leadership update as Erik Johnson takes the helm as Head of Technical Underwriting, driving innovation forward.
Markel, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of Erik Johnson as the Head of Technical Underwriting and Oversight, effective immediately. In this newly established role, Johnson will spearhead the International Technical Underwriting team, ensuring the maintenance and enhancement of high standards in technical underwriting across the organization.
Johnson’s responsibilities will also encompass oversight of the Wordings team. He will work closely with Chloe Adams, the Head of Wordings, to offer strategic direction throughout the business. Based in London, Johnson will report directly to Nick Line, Chief Underwriting Officer for Markel International.
Johnson began his journey with Markel as a consultant in May 2024. Prior to this, he served in several leadership capacities within the London insurance market, including roles in Active, Deputy Active, and syndicate management positions. A strong proponent of diversity, Johnson co-founded the LGBT Insurance Network in 2012 and continues to be a vocal advocate for inclusion in the industry. He also contributes to numerous boards and advisory panels, championing initiatives that advance diversity and inclusion within the insurance sector.
