Yet, fresh reports from China indicate the iPhone 17 and 17 Air might lack an adaptive refresh rate akin to the ProMotion displays.
This implies that the iPhone 17 and 17 Air could present a fixed 120 Hz refresh rate rather than an adaptive one. ProMotion displays harness LTPO technology to enhance battery efficiency by dynamically lowering the refresh rate to as low as 1 Hz when high refresh rates aren’t necessary.
The potential absence of adaptive refresh rates could detrimentally affect the battery performance of the iPhone 17 and 17 Air. LTPO panels are a staple in premium smartphones due to their ability to modify refresh rates dynamically without requiring extra hardware, albeit at a higher cost compared to LTPS technology displays.
