Microsoft has officially launched Windows 11 version 25H2, now accessible to Insider users in the Dev and Beta channels. This latest release brings substantial enhancements in system performance and user interface, along with a noteworthy feature: a new Group Policy option for removing default Microsoft Store applications.

Enhanced Control for IT Administrators

Pre-installed apps on Windows 11 are often labeled as ‘bloatware’ by users. To address this, Windows 11 25H2 introduces a feature allowing these default apps to be uninstalled without extra tools, especially beneficial for system administrators. The new Group Policy option enables users to manage the removal of specific applications directly through the system interface.

Feature Details: The setting “Remove default Microsoft Store packages from the system” empowers users to choose which apps they wish to uninstall, while unselected apps remain. If the feature is disabled or unconfigured, all default apps stay installed. Removable apps include Clipchamp, Windows Media Player, Terminal, Notepad, and several other Microsoft Store applications.

Benefits in Corporate Settings

This functionality is exclusive to editions featuring Group Policy Editor, like Windows 11 Pro. It doesn’t apply to Windows 11 Home users by default. However, the integration of this feature into Group Policy offers significant benefits, particularly for IT administrators in corporate environments, allowing them to predefine which applications should be installed during system setup.
