Microsoft has announced the latest addition to its Surface Pro lineup for 2025 – the Surface Pro 12 Inch. This model is celebrated as the most lightweight and slender member of the Copilot+ PC family to date.
The Surface Pro 12 Inch remains faithful to the classic Surface Pro concept, serving as both a versatile tablet with a built-in kickstand and a laptop with a detachable keyboard. Microsoft’s aim with this release is to provide a more budget-friendly and portable alternative to the standard Surface Pro 11. Priced at a base of $799, it offers users a Windows tablet featuring a fanless 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of UFS storage. Additionally, a higher capacity 512 GB version is available.
On the display front, the Surface Pro 12 Inch boasts a PixelSense LCD screen, measuring 12 inches diagonally with a resolution of 2,196 x 1,464 (220 PPI). The refresh rate is set at 60 Hz by default but can be adjusted to 90 Hz for smoother visuals.
As with other Copilot+ PCs, the new Surface Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and it incorporates Qualcomm’s 45 TOPS NPU, powering all AI-driven capabilities such as Recall, Click-to-Do, rendering, and more.
In terms of connectivity, the device includes two USB 3.2 Type-C ports for charging, data transfer, and video output. Microsoft confirms that the tablet can operate two 4K monitors at 60Hz and is compatible with the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock and various accessories. Notably, Surface Connect is not present as Microsoft transitions fully to USB-C.
The battery life promises up to 16 hours of local video playback or 12 hours of active web browsing. The device supports charging at a rate of up to 45W, although the charger is not included in the package. Following the recent removal of the charger from the Surface Pro 11 in Europe, Microsoft is now adopting this policy globally.
Regarding accessories, the Surface Pro can be paired with the Surface Slim Pen 2 and other pens compatible with the Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP). The Slim Pen 2 can be conveniently charged from the back of the tablet. The keyboard for the Surface Pro 12 Inch has evolved by eliminating the charging dock while preserving the backlit feature. It can now fold completely flat for enhanced ergonomic comfort.

The Surface Pro 12 Inch is currently available for pre-order at a price of $799, with shipments set to commence on May 20.
