Google’s New AI Tool: Veo 2

In the competitive landscape of AI-powered productivity tools, Google is making significant strides with the introduction of Veo 2. This next-generation video production model is now accessible to paid users through the Gemini app and its web interface. Initially, only a select group of users can avail of this feature, but Google plans to extend it to more Gemini Advanced subscribers over the coming weeks.

Creating Short Videos with AI

At the heart of Veo 2 is its ability to craft short video clips by interpreting text inputs. Users simply input descriptive text about a scene, and the model generates corresponding video frames. Compared to OpenAI’s Sora model, Veo 2 offers a more sophisticated grasp of “real-world physics”, designed to make movements, such as those of humans, appear more lifelike.

Currently, Veo 2 can produce 8-second videos with a resolution of 720p. Users enjoy extensive control over the video’s content, though Google has not disclosed an explicit monthly production cap. However, users will receive notifications upon nearing a certain usage threshold. Detailed prompts yield more precise results, emphasizing the importance of specificity.

Exploring Veo 2’s Capabilities

Beyond text-based commands, Veo 2’s versatility extends to Whisk, an experimental platform revealed by Google last year. Here, users can generate dynamic 8-second videos utilizing both sample images and text prompts. Noteworthy is the monthly limitation of 100 videos produced via Whisk.

While Veo 2’s creations aren’t yet entirely “realistic,” Google prioritizes safety, implementing various filters to block illegal or inflammatory content. Each video produced is embedded with a SynthID digital watermark, ensuring authenticity and security.
