NotebookLM, an innovative AI-powered research and note-taking solution developed by Google Labs, has expanded its capabilities by introducing support for over 50 additional languages, including Turkish. Previously, this tool was accessible exclusively to English-speaking users.
The Audio Overviews feature is engineered to help users grasp the essence of their material quickly, saving them the effort of reading through everything. As outlined by Google, these overviews are live, in-depth discussions conducted between two AI presenters, summarizing key topics from your materials. They transform documents, slides, and charts into engaging discussions with just a click, making them particularly beneficial for learning on the move.
With this update, users can now upload resources in various languages or even mix them within a single notebook. They can then choose their preferred output language for the audio summary from an expanded list. This functionality is accessible by navigating to Settings > Output Language in the top right menu of the NotebookLM interface.
Google clarifies that while there are no specific administrative controls for this language-only feature within Google Workspace, administrators in Google Workspace for Education can continue to use existing controls for overall NotebookLM access, which remain unchanged. It is essential to note that these audio summaries are designed to reflect the content provided by the user, rather than offering subjective opinions.
Though voice generation has embraced multilingual capabilities, the interactive mode allowing users to chat with AI servers is still in beta and currently limited to English. This expanded language feature is available for users across various Google Workspace editions, such as Business Starter, Nonprofits, Education Fundamentals, and more, alongside NotebookLM Plus users on existing plans.
