Google has highlighted that the Advanced Protection mode within Chrome’s Safe Browsing offers twice the protection against phishing and related threats compared to its Standard Protection mode. To augment this capability, Gemini Nano will be deployed, providing an extra shield against web-based scams for users who opt into Advanced Protection. Designed to understand the intricate and ever-evolving landscape of websites, Gemini Nano enables Google to quickly adapt to emerging fraud techniques. Initially focused on defending against remote tech support scams, Google plans to expand Gemini Nano’s scope to tackle a broader range of fraudulent schemes.

Chrome on Android: Blocking Scammers and Unwanted Notifications

In a bid to safeguard users from deceptive notifications, Chrome on Android will now issue alerts for potentially malicious, spam, or misleading notifications. When Chrome’s on-device AI identifies a notification as suspicious, it will prompt users with an option to either unsubscribe or review blocked content. Google reports that hundreds of millions of fraudulent search results are intercepted daily with AI’s assistance. Their AI systems are now capable of identifying 20 times more fraudulent pages than before. Google advises users to be vigilant about formatting, fonts, and symbols, and to always verify information through official sources.
