The recent spotlight has shifted to President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz, amid allegations of using his personal Gmail account to discuss sensitive military strategies. A report by The Washington Post suggests that Waltz engaged in conversations concerning “powerful weapons systems and sensitive military positions related to an ongoing conflict” via his Gmail account.
These allegations arose after an unintended incident where Waltz included a journalist in a Signal chat group. This group was purportedly discussing a planned military strike in Yemen, during which high-level US military plans were allegedly disclosed.
According to The Washington Post, Waltz and other members of the National Security Council engaged in highly technical discussions with officials from other government agencies over Gmail. While other officials reportedly used official government accounts, Waltz preferred his personal email. Despite this, Brian Hughes, a spokesman for the National Security Council, contends that there was no transmission of classified information through Waltz’s open account and argues there is no evidence of such activity.
Some sources suggest that Waltz’s Gmail was used to forward potentially exploitable information, including a program and some work documents. Conversely, a report by Wired revealed Waltz’s public Venmo account linked him to numerous individuals, including journalists and military officials.
Spiegel International also reported that personal information concerning Trump administration officials, including Waltz’s email password, was found in data leaks, raising further security concerns.
