This initiative is particularly targeted at journalists, politicians, and public figures, providing them with a means to authenticate their accounts and combat the proliferation of misinformation spread by fraudulent profiles.
In its initial rollout, the blue tick verification process will be managed by a select group of independent and reliable institutions. These organizations are empowered to bolster their reputation on the platform by verifying individuals within their teams. For instance, a company’s press officer, upon being verified by the organization, will receive a blue tick badge, signifying the dissemination of official information.
Bluesky’s moderation team will play a crucial role in this process by meticulously reviewing each verified account to prevent any potential fraudulent activities. This ensures that accounts awarded the blue tick are genuinely associated with the claimed organizations or individuals.
Although individual applications for verification are not currently accepted, Bluesky has announced plans to introduce a system that will allow users to apply for the blue tick in the near future. This move will further democratize the verification process and expand its reach.
