Baidu Unveils Advanced AI Models: ERNIE X1 Turbo and ERNIE 4.5 Turbo

Baidu’s Latest AI Models Make Waves at Developer Conference

Baidu announced its newest AI innovations, the ERNIE X1 Turbo and ERNIE 4.5 Turbo, during the Baidu Create 2025 developer conference. These upgraded models are enhanced versions of the ERNIE X1 and ERNIE 4.5 models, which were initially introduced earlier this year.

The ERNIE X1 Turbo is a deep-thinking reasoning model that Baidu claims surpasses the capabilities of the latest DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3. Known for its multimodal proficiency and robust reasoning abilities, this model is adept at generating intricate text, solving logic puzzles, handling complex math problems, and interpreting images.

Baidu has maintained competitive pricing for its AI models, and the X1 Turbo is no exception. This advanced reasoning model is priced at approximately 25% of the cost of DeepSeek R1, with users incurring charges of $0.14 per 1 million tokens for input and $0.55 per 1 million tokens for output.

The ERNIE 4.5 Turbo model distinguishes itself by offering faster processing speeds and an 80% reduction in price compared to its predecessor, ERNIE 4.5. This model is priced at $0.11 per 1 million tokens for both input and output. ERNIE 4.5 Turbo is noted for its enhanced logical reasoning, improved coding capabilities, and reduced instances of hallucinations, while also showing significant advances in multimodal reasoning.

On the other hand, the X1 Turbo is recognized for its more sophisticated chain of thought, deeper cognitive abilities, and excellence in literary creation, thereby augmenting its multimodal capabilities.

The ERNIE series has been under development for several years, first reaching the public in 2023. These models bolster Baidu’s AI ecosystem and its ChatGPT-like chatbot, known as ERNIE Bot, which is integrated into various products including Baidu Search and Baidu Maps. Baidu is reportedly developing the next iteration of its foundational model, ERNIE 5.0, anticipated to be launched in the latter half of this year.
