Apple’s Ambitious Plans for Future Processors
Apple is set to expand its computing capabilities with the introduction of the M5 processor later this year. Excitingly, the company has now unveiled its roadmap for the development of the Apple M6 and M7 processors, promising increased core counts, enhanced AI capabilities, and extended battery life. These advancements could redefine industry standards.
Innovations and Codenames: As Apple gears up to launch the M5, preparations are underway for not just one, but three new processor families. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a mysterious new chip codenamed “Sorta,” alongside the M6 and M7 processors. These chips are internally referred to as “Komodo” for the M6 and “Borneo” for the M7. The “Sorta” chip, potentially the M8, remains shrouded in secrecy regarding its intended devices.
Performance Leap: Reports suggest that some of these processors in testing might boast 2 to 6 times more CPU and GPU cores compared to the current M3 Ultra, which features a 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU. The upcoming chips are projected to reach up to 192 GPU cores and 192 CPU cores, marking a significant leap in processing power.
