Apple’s Dominance Among Teens: The iPhone Remains Unchallenged

88% of Teens Own an iPhone

According to a recent survey conducted by “Piper Sandler Taking Stock of Teens” in the spring of 2025, an impressive 88% of US teenagers are proud owners of an iPhone. This marks a noticeable rise from last year’s 85%, underscoring Apple’s deepening bond with its young demographic. The same survey reveals that an equal percentage of respondents (88%) are already committed to choosing an iPhone for their next smartphone purchase.

This statistic signifies that Apple has mastered more than just crafting aesthetically pleasing devices; it has successfully established an ecosystem that resonates well with the youth, fostering uninterrupted social interactions. Features like iMessage, FaceTime, and AirDrop are particularly significant in shaping the preferences of young users who favor Apple devices for communication.

High Expectations for the New Model

The anticipation for Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17, expected to launch later this year, is notably high. According to the survey, 25% of young users expressed their intention to upgrade to this new model. This is a positive uptick from last year, demonstrating not only the retention of Apple’s loyal user base but also its expansion.

Challenges in Other Apple Products

While Apple appears to be unrivaled in the smartphone market, the same cannot be said for other product categories among young people. In the realm of virtual reality headsets, only 21% of teenagers own such a device, with a mere 1% opting for Apple’s Vision Pro. The majority have gravitated towards Oculus products.

Apple TV+ faces similar challenges in gaining traction among young users. However, Apple Music presents a more favorable picture, with 34% of teens having used the music service in the past six months.

Despite these varying degrees of success across different product lines, the iPhone remains Apple’s ace in the hole among the youth. The brand’s perception, user-friendly interface, and ecosystem coherence continue to make Apple an indispensable choice in smartphone preferences. It is clear that the iPhone intends to maintain its leadership among young users for the foreseeable future.
