Apple has unveiled its comprehensive 2024 App Store Transparency Report, providing a detailed examination of app submissions, rejections, removals, and anti-fraud efforts across the 175 countries and territories where the App Store operates.

Key Statistics from the Report
In 2024, Apple reported the closure of 129 million accounts, the removal of 82,000 apps, and the rejection of 1.9 million app submissions. The total number of apps on the App Store is nearing 2 million, with review teams processing 7,771,599 app submissions during the year and rejecting 1,931,400 for not adhering to guidelines. The primary cause for rejection was “performance” issues, leading to 1,235,471 apps being denied entry. Other reasons included legal and design issues, with 295,109 apps eventually gaining approval after revisions.
App Removals and Government Requests
In 2024, Apple removed 82,509 apps from the App Store for breaching the App Review Guidelines or Developer Programme Licence Agreement (DPLA). The most affected categories were Tools and Games, with 16,191 and 15,122 apps removed, respectively. Government requests can also prompt removals, with China leading at 17,309 applications removed. Notably, 8 apps were taken down from the Turkish App Store following government orders.
Developer Accounts and Fraud Prevention
Apple reported a total of 51,766,243 registered Apple developers in 2024, with 146,747 developer accounts closed, predominantly due to fraud. Additionally, 128,961,839 user accounts were closed as Apple thwarted fraudulent transactions worth $2,023,389,488.
App Store Usage and Search Activity
The App Store saw an average of 813,110,348 weekly visitors, who downloaded 839,266,915 apps and re-downloaded 1,898,240,007 apps each week. Automatic app updates averaged 66,022,387,774 weekly. Furthermore, 440,896,463 user accounts utilized App Store search weekly, highlighting the platform’s robust activity.
