Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 series is rumored to introduce significantly faster wireless charging capabilities. Recent findings have unveiled two MagSafe chargers, each offering an impressive 45 W power output, aligned with the anticipated Qi 2.2 standard, as listed on a Taiwanese certification platform.

Potential Increase in Charging Speed

According to a discovery by 91Mobiles, two innovative Apple-manufactured MagSafe chargers have emerged on Taiwan’s National Communications Commission’s website. Identified by model numbers A3503 and A3502, these chargers reportedly share the same charging features but are distinguished by their braided cable lengths, available in 1m or 2m variants. Should these chargers be legitimate, the iPhone 17 series could experience a notable enhancement in wireless charging speeds.

Current and Future Charging Standards

The existing Apple iPhone 16 series supports wireless charging at 25 W. Meanwhile, the prevailing Qi charging standard, crafted by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), currently allows up to 15 W of wireless charging under the Qi 2.1 framework. The forthcoming Qi 2.2 aims to elevate this capacity to an impressive 50 W. Being a pivotal member of the WPC, Apple is actively contributing its version of the MagSafe’s magnetic technology to the development of Qi 2 and is playing a significant role in shaping this new standard.
