During the discussion of Apple’s second fiscal quarter results for 2025, CEO Tim Cook acknowledged delays in the development of the new Siri features under the Apple Intelligence initiative. While the virtual assistant hasn’t yet achieved the desired quality, Cook highlighted that significant strides have been made in its enhancement.
Originally unveiled at WWDC 2024, Apple’s vision for Siri involves transforming it from a simple voice-activated assistant into a sophisticated artificial intelligence aide capable of understanding context and executing complex tasks. The initial release was slated for an iOS 18 update, but earlier this year, Apple officially announced a delay, citing the need for extended development time.
As part of its ongoing efforts, Apple aims to process user data directly on devices to ensure a secure artificial intelligence framework. This approach prioritizes user privacy while delivering more personalized interactions.
Apple has made strategic changes within its teams to expedite Siri’s development. Notably, John Giannandrea, a long-time artificial intelligence expert, was replaced by Mike Rockwell, previously the head of the Vision Pro project. This shift is intended to enhance the hardware and software integration for Siri.
The revamped Siri is anticipated to debut with iOS 19. However, whether it will be available in the initial release or in later updates remains uncertain. Some industry insiders speculate that the launch could be postponed until 2026.
