Introducing the Xiaomi Xring Processor

Xiaomi has intensified its efforts to develop its own mobile processor, making significant strides towards the launch of its first full-fledged chipset, tentatively named Xring. According to recent reports, the unveiling is anticipated by the end of May.

So, what does the Xring processor have to offer? Spearheaded by former Qualcomm executive Qin Muyun, the project aims to revolutionize Xiaomi’s position in the mobile processor market.

Technical Specifications and Capabilities

Unlike initial speculations of utilizing a 3nm process, the Xring is expected to debut with a 4nm N4P process from TSMC. This strategic decision reflects Xiaomi’s cautious approach to avoid potential sanctions similar to those faced by Huawei.

Delving into its technical specifications, the Xring will feature an octa-core architecture. This includes one Cortex-X925 core clocked at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A725 cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores running at 2.0GHz. On the graphics front, it will boast an Imagination IMG DXT72 GPU operating at 1.3GHz, potentially matching the performance of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Xiaomi’s Vision for Market Independence

Xiaomi’s initiative extends beyond mere technical prowess. By developing the Xring processor, the company aims to reduce its reliance on industry giants like Qualcomm and MediaTek, thus fostering greater independence in the global marketplace.
