In a comprehensive study conducted from January to April 2018, analyzing 77 cities worldwide, Turkey secured the 67th position in terms of city expenses. This detailed examination was spearheaded by Ajans Press, utilizing data from the “Prices and Earnings” report crafted by the financial firm UBS, alongside various media sources. The study highlighted Zurich, Switzerland’s bustling capital, as the priciest city globally.
Ajans Press further delved into the financial dynamics of urban centers by evaluating average incomes and purchasing capabilities across these metropolises. Their collaboration with PRNet revealed a considerable media focus, with 1,634 articles discussing living costs in 2017, a number that had already increased to 1,924 by 2018.
In this report, Zurich emerged as the leader in living costs, followed closely by Geneva, Oslo, and Copenhagen. Conversely, Cairo, Egypt’s capital, was identified as the most affordable city, occupying the last position on the list.
New York served as the baseline for this evaluation, with prices indexed in US dollars. It was noted that Zurich’s monthly expenditure on goods and services amounted to 4,206 dollars, whereas Cairo required a modest 1,272 dollars. In contrast, Istanbul’s expenditure was calculated at 1,973 dollars.
Beyond general pricing, the report offered insights into specific spending categories like food, transportation, electronics, and clothing. Istanbul was ranked 48th for food costs, 42nd for electronics, and 53rd for public transport. For short-term city tours, Istanbul stood at 74th, where a budget of 362 dollars sufficed for exploration.
