Vivo is on the brink of unveiling its next-generation foldable smartphone, the X Fold 5, targeted at the Chinese market. In its promotional campaign, Vivo underscores the exceptional durability of this innovative device. The X Fold 5 stands out as the industry’s first foldable phone to provide triple protection, boasting resilience against water, dust, and drops.
Unlike its predecessor, the new model is designed to offer unrivaled dust protection with an IP5X rating. When it comes to water resistance, the phone is equipped with IPX8-level protection, allowing it to endure submersion in water up to 3 meters deep. This surpasses the 1.5-meter water resistance of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Moreover, the device features an IPX9 rating for defense against high-pressure water jets and an exceptional IPX9+ rating to endure folding while underwater. Vivo asserts that the X Fold 5 can perform 1,000 open and close cycles at a depth of 1 meter.
The Vivo X Fold 5 is anticipated to sport a 6.53-inch LTPO external display and an 8.03-inch 2K+ AMOLED internal display, both equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the phone is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
With a robust 6,000 mAh battery, the device promises impressive battery longevity, complemented by 90 W wired and 30 W wireless charging capabilities. In terms of photography, both the external and internal displays are expected to house a 32 MP selfie camera. The rear of the phone will feature a Zeiss-tuned triple camera array, consisting of a 50 MP Sony IMX921 main sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50 MP periscope lens offering 3x optical zoom.
