Unico Sigorta has unveiled an innovative tool named UniMap, marking a significant advancement in mapping earthquake and flood risks across Turkey. This development was highlighted during a special event featuring Prof. Dr. Ergin Ulutaş and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özkan Coruk, both renowned experts in Geophysics and Geological Engineering. The UniMap has been meticulously crafted using earth science-based analyses, setting a new standard in disaster risk management.
As part of its strategic 2025-2027 business plan, Unico Sigorta is committed to utilizing a data-driven and comprehensive vision to establish a natural disaster risk map for Turkey. A gathering was organized to disseminate project details among business partners and industry specialists, featuring valuable insights from Prof. Dr. Ergin Ulutaş and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özkan Coruk. Attendees were offered an in-depth understanding of the scientific foundation, data analyses, and the practical applications of UniMap, along with opportunities for collaborative discussions.
The UniMap initiative provides thorough analyses on both point and regional scales, underpinned by scientific principles, to enhance disaster risk management for events like earthquakes and floods. A distinctive feature of this project is its capability to analyze risks individually through multi-hazard criteria. Consequently, UniMap departs from traditional disaster maps by offering point-based risk analysis, rather than a broad cumulative approach.
Ender Güzeler, the General Manager of Unico Sigorta, remarked: “Situated in an earthquake-prone area, our nation must also brace for floods and other climate change-induced disaster risks. At Unico Sigorta, we acknowledge these threats and are committed to contributing our part. By integrating current data and analyses into our insurance framework, we empower both our policyholders and our nation to confidently face the future. With this initiative, we enhance our insurance offerings by conducting granular, point-by-point risk analyses rather than relying solely on general fault map assessments. The UniMap risk maps embody this forward-thinking approach. It is crucial for us to present our findings and engage in intellectual exchanges with esteemed scientists.”
Unico Sigorta remains steadfast in its efforts to further refine this project and broaden its influence, ensuring ongoing progress in the realm of natural disaster risk assessment.
