Twitch, the popular live streaming platform, has announced a series of innovative updates to enhance the creator experience. One of the standout features is vertical live streaming, designed to optimize viewing on smartphones. This dual-format capability allows broadcasters to offer both vertical and horizontal streams seamlessly. Twitch plans to begin testing this feature on a select number of channels this summer, with a broader release expected later this year.
In addition to this, Twitch is increasing its streaming quality by introducing support for 1440p resolution. By adopting the HEVC codec, the platform will offer superior picture quality at reduced bitrates. The Enhanced Broadcasting technology further refines the viewing experience by automatically adjusting resolution. Starting today, all partners and affiliates can stream in 1440p, though this feature remains in open beta, meaning it may take time for all creators to gain access.
Twitch is also making it easier for viewers to catch up on missed content with a new rewind broadcasts feature. This capability allows users to rewind live streams to catch segments they might have missed. The company intends to test this functionality with a limited user group this summer before wider implementation.
