The Washington Post has announced a strategic collaboration with OpenAI to extend its news reach through the ChatGPT platform. Although the financial specifics of the agreement remain undisclosed, this partnership will allow ChatGPT to provide users with concise summaries, excerpts, and direct links to the Washington Post’s news articles.
Peter Elkins-Williams, head of Global Partnerships at The Washington Post, expressed excitement about the collaboration: “We’re committed to meeting our audience where they are. By integrating our impactful news content into ChatGPT, we enhance accessibility, providing our audience with the information they seek, whenever and wherever they need it.”
The Washington Post has been leveraging generative AI technology since November to deliver precise news summaries. As of early February, the ChatGPT Search functionality has been made universally accessible, eliminating the need for users to create an account or log in. OpenAI has similarly partnered with over 20 news publishers globally, reinforcing its role in the evolving landscape of digital news delivery.
