Türk Reasürans will continue to serve as the technical operator of the Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK), which provides financial protection against earthquakes.
In line with the decision of the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Authority (SEDDK) dated 30 July 2025, the existing agreement between DASK and Türk Reasürans has been renewed under updated terms. The role, first assumed on 8 August 2020, has been successfully carried out for the past five years and will continue under the renewed agreement effective 8 August 2025.
Over the past five years, critical processes have been managed successfully, particularly following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes.
DASK’s payment capacity increased from 25 billion TL to 355 billion TL.
A structure was established to provide financial guarantees for two separate earthquakes within the same year.
The fund size grew 65%, reaching 17.4 billion TL.
Through effective risk transfer to the global reinsurance market, Türk Reasürans secured 26 billion TL of the 40 billion TL paid after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes from abroad, reducing the financial strain on both the insurance sector and the national economy. All compensation was paid within six months.
DASK’s infrastructure has been modernized to receive unlimited damage reports simultaneously, enabling 96,000 damage files to be opened within 24 hours.
The DASK Emergency Management Center was activated in Ankara.
The main data center was relocated to a secure, low-risk location in Istanbul.
The CATMOD system, developed by Türk Reasürans subsidiary T-Rupt Technology, now enables more accurate post-earthquake financial loss estimations using Turkey’s unique building inventory and local conditions.
Operational efficiency was boosted through:
e-Government-based contact updates
Square meter verification in policy issuance
Enhanced information security
Separation of institutional functions
Regional liaison offices across Turkey have improved disaster response speed and strengthened cooperation with local authorities.
Aiming for 100% insurance coverage, Türk Reasürans plans to play an active role in the Mandatory Disaster Insurance initiative, which will expand coverage from earthquakes to all natural disasters.
