Samsung is set to release its much-anticipated One UI 8, based on Android 16. Unlike its predecessor, One UI 7, Samsung aims to be more punctual with this release. The new interface is still under development, but several exciting updates have already been identified.
One of the most significant enhancements in One UI 8 is the redesigned Samsung DeX, which offers a desktop-like experience using Galaxy smartphones. The updated DeX interface now features a centered taskbar, reminiscent of Windows, along with permanent application shortcuts. Previously, in One UI 7, the taskbar only displayed icons of active apps. The app drawer has also received a makeover, presenting all installed apps in a compact pop-up window instead of occupying the entire screen.
In a nod to audiophiles, One UI 8 extends the improved quick panel controls of the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro to older Galaxy Buds models. By long-pressing the volume slider in the quick panel, users can access a drop-down menu to adjust volume and activate features like ambient sound and noise cancellation. Although controls for features such as 360 volume and equalizer are absent, they are slated for inclusion in future updates.
Samsung has also refined several general UI elements in One UI 8, including a glass-like background blur in drop-down menus. Despite these changes, the overall design and features remain similar to One UI 7. Samsung plans to launch the first beta version of One UI 8 next month. The initial devices to showcase this updated interface will be the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
