Samsung is poised to release the One UI 8.0 update for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the near future. This update will coincide with the anticipated release of Android 16’s stable version, expected to be available by June. What new features and enhancements can users expect with One UI 8.0? Let’s explore the anticipated innovations bundled with this Android 16-based update.
Samsung has initiated the rollout of the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for select Galaxy models in a beta testing phase. Following the substantial interface overhaul in One UI 7, the focus shifts to refining functionality and enhancing user experience, rather than introducing radical changes in this new version. Though initially available to a limited number of models, the update will evolve based on user feedback during the beta period.
With One UI 8, Samsung is elevating its multi-modal artificial intelligence capabilities. The next-generation AI system is designed to better interpret on-screen content, facilitating more natural communication. Additionally, users can now choose to have the AI operate exclusively with on-device data, ensuring privacy and efficiency.
Samsung continues to refine the One UI interface specifically for its foldable Galaxy Fold and Flip series. The interface behavior for these models will be more cohesive, offering a seamless user experience tailored to devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which are expected to deliver a consistent experience unique to their form factor.
Initially introduced in One UI 7 and restricted to Samsung applications, the Now Bar will become accessible to developers in One UI 8. This mini control center, visible on the lock screen and Always-on Display, can now be utilized more effectively with third-party applications, enhancing its functionality.
The Reminder app has undergone a complete redesign. Users will find categories displayed with icons in boxed layouts and can now add reminders using voice commands. Additionally, Calendar and Samsung Notes integration allows automations to trigger based on new notes or upcoming events.
Quick Share has been improved, eliminating the need to open the app to accept files. Alarm management now includes group alarm widgets. Moreover, Samsung supports the Bluetooth LE Audio standard Auracast, allowing multiple Galaxy Buds to connect and share the same audio stream using a single QR code.
The Knox Vault infrastructure has received updates for enhanced security, better isolating biometric data. Meanwhile, the DeX interface sees improvements for better alignment with Android 16, gradually transforming the desktop experience to more closely resemble that of a laptop.
