Qualcomm has officially launched its highly anticipated mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This new chipset is built on TSMC’s cutting-edge 4nm process technology, bringing substantial performance enhancements over the previous Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 model.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 retains the familiar 1+3+4 core configuration of its predecessor. It features one high-performance 2.8 GHz Cortex-A720 core, three 2.4 GHz A720 performance cores, and four efficient 1.84 GHz Cortex-A520 cores. Qualcomm promises a remarkable 27% increase in CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, the chipset can execute large language models directly on the device. Notably, it’s the first 7-series processor to support Stable Diffusion-based visual generation, offering an impressive 65% boost in AI performance over its predecessor.
The upgraded Adreno GPU delivers 30% more graphics performance than its predecessor, supporting technologies like OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, and HDR10+. It is also compatible with HDR10 and HLG standards.
Maintaining a 12-bit triple ISP, the processor supports up to 200MP still photography. On the video front, it now offers 4K HDR video recording at 60 frames per second. For the first time in the 7 series, it includes AI-powered [autofocus], auto white balance, auto exposure, and hardware stabilization features.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x memory and UFS 3.1 storage. Displays can have refresh rates up to 144 Hz and support WQHD+ resolutions. The chipset integrates a Snapdragon 5G Modem with download speeds up to 4.2 Gbps, along with advanced connectivity options like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Audio enhancements include the aptX Lossless codec and Qualcomm Aqstic Hi-Fi DAC, accompanied by Quick Charge 5 technology.
In a series-first, Qualcomm’s Extended Personal Area Network (XPAN) technology is embedded, ensuring seamless connectivity within buildings, whether you’re far from your phone or on a different floor.
The first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 will be the Honor 400 and Vivo S30. These devices are expected to be announced later this month, offering users a taste of this cutting-edge technology.
