Russia’s Ministry of Defense Announces Prisoner Exchange

The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the return of the first group of Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine. These soldiers, all under the age of 25, were released following direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, held in Istanbul.

In a reciprocal gesture, a similar number of Ukrainian soldiers were handed over to Kiev. The Russian soldiers, currently in Belarus, are receiving necessary psychological and medical care.

President Zelensky’s Remarks on the Exchange

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation via his Telegram account, confirming the successful prisoner exchange as per the Istanbul agreements.

He expressed that Ukrainian soldiers have been brought back home through this process. Zelensky remarked, “The exchange commenced today and will unfold over several stages in the coming days.”

He highlighted the complexity and sensitivity of the exchange, noting that daily negotiations were crucial. “Among those returning are the wounded, seriously injured, and young soldiers under 25,” Zelensky said.
