In response to recent Russian airstrikes near the Ukrainian border, Poland and its NATO allies took decisive action on Monday to safeguard Polish airspace. The Polish Armed Forces reported early morning operations, stating that these measures were implemented to ensure security in areas adjacent to potential threats, amid fears that Russian missiles could inadvertently cross into Polish territory.
The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command announced, “In connection with the intensive air attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian soil, both Polish and allied aircraft commenced increased activity in the Polish airspace.” This proactive stance saw the deployment of “all available forces and means,” which included on-call fighter jets and ground-based air defense systems.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of any violations of Poland’s airspace. The Polish military emphasized its commitment to maintaining vigilance, closely monitoring developments in Ukraine, and remaining on high alert to protect Polish skies. Acknowledging the support of the NATO Air Force, the military expressed gratitude for the allied assistance.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, overnight Russian drone strikes targeted several regions, including Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Zaporizhzhia, underscoring the ongoing conflict’s regional impact.
