Pamukkale Basket Shines in Earthquake Zone Basketball Tournament
Pamukkale Basket from Gaziantep emerged victorious in a remarkable display of talent during the 3×3 basketball tournaments. These matches were organized in newly constructed basketball courts across Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and Adıyaman, in collaboration with Türkiye Sigorta and the Turkish Basketball Federation.
The tournament, a beacon of hope aiming to unite young people in the earthquake-affected regions through sports, commenced with 24 teams from each province. The games kicked off in Hatay and Gaziantep on May 3-4 and proceeded to Kahramanmaraş and Adıyaman on May 10-11. Initially, the teams were split into 8 groups of 3 for the group matches. The top two teams from each group advanced to the knockout stage on the second day to vie for the championship title in their respective provinces.
The exhilarating final took place at the Basketball Development Centre in Istanbul on Sunday, May 18. The champions from each province—Hatay’s Powerfit, Gaziantep’s Pamukkale Basket, Adıyaman’s And1, and Kahramanmaraş’s Gaziantep Prime—competed fiercely. Ultimately, Pamukkale Basket claimed the championship title in an exciting finale. Trophies and medals were bestowed upon the winners by executives from Türkiye Sigorta and TBF in a jubilant ceremony.
Hidayet Türkoğlu, President of the Turkish Basketball Federation, highlighted the significance of the tournament, stating: “This event was more than a basketball competition for the young participants; it was a source of hope and morale. Basketball plays a crucial role in helping our youth reconnect with life and regain self-confidence after the devastating events they experienced. Türkiye Sigorta’s vision and support were invaluable on this journey, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility by focusing on youth impacted by the earthquake. We extend our gratitude to Türkiye Sigorta, celebrate all participating young athletes, and are immensely proud of each one.”
