In a meticulously planned offensive known as Operation Spider Web, Ukrainian forces launched a daring and calculated attack on Russian air bases. Under the direct oversight of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, this mission was the culmination of approximately 18 months of strategic preparations.
The operation employed FPV-type drones, which infiltrated deep into Russian territory. These drones were ingeniously housed in mobile wooden cabins mounted on trucks. Once in position, the roofs of these cabins were remotely opened, allowing the drones to strike at critical Russian military assets.
Ukraine has reported significant success from this operation, claiming the destruction of over 40 aircraft belonging to the Russian Air Force, which has purportedly resulted in damages exceeding $2 billion. Among the aircraft reportedly destroyed are the TU-95 (‘Bear’), TU-22M3, and A-50 models.
Footage from the operation revealed a drone taking off from its truck-mounted cabin, successfully completing its mission. This striking footage underscores the sophistication and precision of the operation.
In the aftermath of these attacks, Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Security Council to deliberate on possible strategies to counteract Ukraine’s escalating offensives.
