OpenAI has unveiled GPT-4.1, the latest advancement in its AI lineup, now accessible to all paid subscribers. Members of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team will be among the first to experience the benefits of this model starting today. Meanwhile, those with Enterprise and Education subscriptions should anticipate access in the coming weeks.
As the successor to the previous GPT-4o model, GPT-4.1 brings significant enhancements, particularly in the realms of coding and instruction adherence. A standout feature of GPT-4.1 is its ability to process up to 1 million contexts, encompassing text, images, or video. This capability marks a substantial leap from the 128,000 context limit of GPT-4o.
OpenAI has also announced the discontinuation of the GPT-4.5 preview version from the API, effective 14 July. This decision stems from GPT-4.1 offering comparable or superior performance in essential functions, coupled with lower costs and reduced latency.
Additionally, OpenAI is set to release GPT-4.1 mini, which will take over from the existing GPT-4o mini model. This update will be available to all subscription tiers, ensuring even free users can benefit. For those on the free tier, GPT-4.1 mini will serve as a fallback once the usage limit of the more robust GPT-4o model is reached.
