Nexon, a prominent name in the gaming industry, has reportedly secured a significant partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, the creators of popular titles like Overwatch and StarCraft. According to a report by MTN, this collaboration will see Nexon taking over the distribution responsibilities for the mobile version of Overwatch. Additionally, the deal encompasses another iconic game, StarCraft.
It is said that Blizzard held an auction in the latter part of last year to determine the distribution rights for “Overwatch Mobile” and the development rights for the “StarCraft IP”. Among several Korean developers who participated, Nexon emerged as the winner, securing not only the distribution and service rights for Overwatch Mobile but also the opportunity to develop the next installment in the StarCraft series.
The prospect of a new StarCraft game was initially highlighted in Jason Schreier’s book, “Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment”, where he indicated that Blizzard was actively working on a new shooter game set in the StarCraft universe. However, it remains to be seen how Nexon will influence or transform this project moving forward.
