After being ousted in the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks are gearing up for what the team’s management is calling a “pivotal summer”. The Knicks are coming off two consecutive seasons with over 50 wins, and they’re keen to build on that momentum.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, internal meetings are slated for later this week as Knicks management evaluates potential roster upgrades. Team president Leon Rose has previously shown interest in acquiring players like OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns, and it’s anticipated that he will show similar fervor in the upcoming offseason.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau emphasized that this is “a very important summer”, and he has received strong backing from franchise cornerstone Jalen Brunson as well as the management team.
Finishing the 2024-25 regular season with a 51-31 record, the Knicks secured the third seed in the Eastern Conference. They made notable playoff runs by defeating Detroit and Boston before falling to Indiana 4-2 in the Conference Finals.
Despite mixed results at home, the Knicks displayed resilience on the road, showcasing the potential of their existing roster. This achievement marks their first Conference Finals appearance in 25 years.
Under the leadership of Thibodeau, the Knicks have clinched playoff berths in four of the last five seasons. This summer, the focus is on fortifying the roster to make a Finals push. Charania reports that the Knicks might explore trade options for a star player or to bolster their bench depth.
