In a bold move, Microsoft has launched a new advertising campaign aimed squarely at Apple’s popular MacBook Air. The tech giant claims that its latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, powered by the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, offer performance that is 58% faster than the MacBook Air. However, it’s important to note that this comparison is made against the older version of Apple’s laptop.
In the promotional video, Microsoft highlights that its high-end Copilot+ Windows PCs deliver impressive speed, being “based on Cinebench 2024 multi-core CPU benchmark results”. The claim is that they are up to 58% faster than the previous generation MacBook Air with the M3 chip. Although the ad focuses on an earlier MacBook Air model, the fine print reveals that some Copilot+ PCs outperform even the newest MacBook Air versions with M4 chips, according to the same Cinebench 2024 benchmark testing.
While some PC processors can indeed surpass Apple silicon chips in specific benchmarks, Apple maintains that its latest M4 chip family continues to lead in terms of performance per watt. This significant power efficiency enables the MacBook Air to offer robust performance, extend battery life, and maintain a sleek, fanless design.
