Exciting details about Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 series, are gradually emerging. Previously, it was speculated that the telephoto camera system would undergo significant upgrades. Rumors suggest the incorporation of either a dual camera arrangement with 3.5x and 8x optical zoom or a single lens boasting a staggering 200-megapixel resolution. The latter could deliver a versatile zoom experience through digital cropping, leveraging its high resolution advantage.
Attention is now focused on the primary camera of the Galaxy S26 series. Recent information indicates that the base model will feature a brand new 50-megapixel sensor. Part of Samsung’s ISOCELL GN series, this sensor marks a breakthrough after a three-year hiatus in this domain. Designed with larger pixels, it promises to capture clearer and superior quality photos, especially in low-light scenarios. However, some doubts linger regarding its potential. Observing the latest models in the GN series sensors, there seems to be no significant increase in pixel size. For instance, while the GN1 sensor measured 1/1.31 inches, subsequent GN3 and GN5 models were smaller, at 1/1.57 inches. This has sparked discussions about the new sensor’s physical dimensions.
Moreover, it has been speculated that Samsung may forgo the Plus model in this year’s lineup, opting instead for the introduction of the S26 Edge model. This Edge variant is anticipated to feature a high-end 200-megapixel camera system, similar to its predecessors, signaling Samsung’s strategy to diversify its product offerings.
