In September of last year, Huawei captivated the tech world with its revolutionary tri-fold smartphone. Far from abandoning this innovative design, the company is already gearing up to introduce a successor. According to recent leaks, the second iteration of Huawei’s tri-fold device is slated for launch in the latter half of 2025.
Maintaining the design ethos of its predecessor, the upcoming model is expected to offer the same expansive, tablet-sized screen experience, achieved through a flexible panel that folds at two junctures. However, the real breakthroughs are anticipated to be under the hood.
Rumors suggest the smartphone will be powered by a cutting-edge Kirin processor, rumored to be manufactured using the N-1 process. This processor, likely named Kirin 9020, follows in the footsteps of the original’s Kirin 9010. On the camera front, enhancements are anticipated, although specific technical details remain under wraps. Huawei is reportedly prioritizing image quality, with a strong focus on boosting image processing capabilities via software optimizations.
The inaugural Mate XT stood out as the first commercial tri-fold phone, praised for its design and the seamless performance of HarmonyOS during screen transitions. The upcoming model is expected to build on this robust foundation, integrating more sophisticated hardware and enhanced camera features.
