Amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, California Governor Gavin Newsom has voiced strong opposition to the President’s recent actions. Trump has ordered the deployment of the National Guard in response to intensified demonstrations following the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations targeting immigrants in the area.
In a pointed statement on social media, Governor Newsom criticized the President and his administration, stating, “This is precisely what Donald Trump intended. By inciting tensions, he has now unlawfully placed the National Guard under federal control. This decision sets a dangerous precedent, allowing similar actions in any state at his discretion. We will challenge this in court.”
Previously, Newsom had expressed his concerns by labeling the deployment of the National Guard as an unconstitutional maneuver. He emphasized the importance of state authority and the potential implications of federal overreach.
President Trump authorized the mobilization of 2,000 National Guardsmen through a Presidential Memorandum. This directive was issued in response to the heightened protests in Los Angeles, which have seen increased public outcry following aggressive ICE operations against immigrants.
