As the demonstrations in support of detained irregular migrants enter their third day in Los Angeles, the situation remains tense. The protests, which have at times turned violent, continue to draw significant attention and response from law enforcement.
With National Guard troops now deployed alongside local police, the city is experiencing heightened unrest. An initial deployment of 300 Guardsmen arrived following an order from US President Donald Trump, and there are indications that this number could increase if the situation does not stabilize.
Despite the presence of the National Guard, the protests have not diminished. Instead, clashes between demonstrators and police have occasionally intensified. The focal point of these protests is the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles, where numerous irregular migrants are being held by customs enforcement.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has declared that any unauthorized gatherings will be treated as “illegal” and has warned that demonstrators could face detention. In an attempt to disperse crowds, security forces have employed tear gas and rubber bullets.
Amid the ongoing demonstrations against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, numerous protesters have been detained, and sporadic clashes with security forces continue to occur. President Trump has criticized Democratic leaders for their handling of the situation, attributing the disturbances in the region to their policies.
