Dyson has introduced its groundbreaking new model, PencilVac, touted as the thinnest vacuum cleaner on the planet. At just 38 millimeters thick, it matches the diameter of the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and tips the scales at a mere 1.8 kilograms (less than four pounds). Despite its slim profile, the PencilVac promises high efficiency, powered by Dyson’s smallest and fastest vacuum motor to date.
At first glance, the PencilVac resembles a sleek brush more than a traditional vacuum cleaner. This minimalist design integrates its battery, motor, and electronics into a streamlined body of just 38 mm in diameter. Positioned as the successor to the 2021 Omni-glide, the PencilVac is both lighter and thinner. Equipped with a 28 mm diameter motor, it runs at 140,000 revolutions per minute and delivers a robust 55 AW (airwatts) of suction power. A two-stage filtration system ensures consistent performance even when the dust container is full.
The PencilVac’s cleaning head features four rotating brushes, termed Fluffycone by Dyson. These brushes, with their tapered design, are optimized to prevent hair tangles by channeling strands toward their narrow ends for easy removal. Additionally, their lateral design enhances efficiency in cleaning corners and edges.
Unlike previous models, the PencilVac utilizes green LED lighting, enhancing dust visibility for a clearer view of cleanliness. An integrated LCD screen provides real-time updates on cleaning modes and battery life. Notably, the PencilVac is the first Dyson vacuum to connect with the MyDyson app, offering users device settings, maintenance alerts, and guided cleaning support.
However, the PencilVac’s sleek design does entail some trade-offs. The cleaning head is designed exclusively for hard floors and is less effective on carpets. It also cannot transform into a handheld model. With a 30-minute battery life on the lowest setting, the battery is replaceable, and Dyson plans to offer additional batteries. A magnetic floor station facilitates both charging and storage.
While pricing details remain under wraps, the PencilVac is slated to launch in Japan in 2025, with further international release dates, including in Turkey, yet to be confirmed.
