Mounir al-Bursh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, has made a stark statement on social media, condemning what he describes as a “genocide” being perpetrated against the region, allegedly backed by the US. He emphasized the dire state of hospitals in Gaza, which are severely lacking in essential medicines and medical supplies.
Humanitarian Aid Blocked
Bursh highlighted the critical situation where more than 3,000 trucks loaded with health supplies are stalled in the Egyptian city of Arish, unable to deliver much-needed aid due to Israeli restrictions.
Spread of Epidemics
Due to the blockade on medicines and vaccines, infectious diseases and epidemics, such as acute diarrhea and meningitis, are spreading across Gaza. The water crisis has worsened, with 90 percent of the population facing water scarcity.
Concerns Over Aid Distribution
Bursh criticized Israel’s recent changes in aid distribution, labeling them as a “mass killing trap” and a strategy for forced displacement. He pointed to repeated attacks on civilians gathering for aid as evidence of this claim.
Casualties and Ongoing Violence
According to the Gaza Government Media Office, since May 27, the Israeli military has killed 49 Palestinians and wounded 305 others at aid distribution points. In just one day, 32 individuals were killed and over 250 injured in Rafah and central Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 2023, a staggering 54,418 lives have been lost and 124,190 people have been injured in the ongoing Israeli assaults on Gaza.
