BYD Introduces Next-Generation Home Battery System

Chinese technology powerhouse BYD has expanded its home energy storage lineup with the new Battery-Box HVB. Revealed at Smart E 2025, this fourth-generation home battery system incorporates the acclaimed Blade Battery technology, previously used in BYD’s electric vehicles, now adapted for residential energy storage.

Blade Technology Enters the Residential Market

The HVB marks the latest evolution in BYD’s home battery series, which commenced in 2015, offering substantial improvements in energy density. Featuring lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, the Blade Battery cells are renowned for their mechanical resilience and thermal safety.

The Battery-Box HVB maintains BYD’s tradition of modular, stackable systems akin to the earlier HVS and HVM models. Starting with a base capacity of 5.9 kWh with two modules, it can be expanded up to 29.6 kWh with ten modules. When three systems are interconnected, they can deliver a cumulative capacity of up to 89.07 kWh, making it an optimal solution for residences and small enterprises with substantial energy demands.

Each battery module offers a capacity of 2.97 kWh and weighs a mere 27.3 kg. The system is shielded from environmental factors with an IP55 protection rating. A standout feature of the HVB system is its energy density, boasting a 49.9 percent increase in weight efficiency (108.8 Wh/kg) and a 139.7 percent enhancement in volume efficiency (162.88 Wh/L) compared to the prior HVM model.

The Battery-Box HVB provides a maximum continuous power output of 25.6 kW, with a short-term peak capability of 50.18 kW to address sudden power surges. While pricing and availability details remain undisclosed, BYD’s energy storage solutions are already extensively available in various European markets, particularly in Germany. BYD proudly claims its status as the leader in residential energy storage in Germany and ranks among the top three across Europe.

Enhancements to HVS and HVM Series

In addition to the HVB, BYD has unveiled updates to the existing HVS and HVM lineups, now branded as HVS+ and HVM+. Although their battery technology remains unchanged, the configuration process has been streamlined by adopting the same Battery Control Unit (BCU) used in the new HVB. The integrated mobile app also received an upgrade to improve user experience.
