In response to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the British government is collaborating with Israeli authorities to facilitate evacuation flights for British nationals stranded in Tel Aviv. Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the initiative on Friday, providing hope to those affected by the closure of Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s main international gateway.
Lammy highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens, stating, “As part of our efforts to support British citizens in the Middle East, the government is working with the Israeli authorities to provide evacuation flights from Tel Aviv airport when airspace reopens.”
The airport’s closure last week was a direct consequence of the intensified hostilities in the region, leaving many travelers in a state of uncertainty. The UK government has urged British citizens currently in Israel to register their presence with local British authorities to facilitate evacuation planning.
In addition to these initiatives, the British government is enhancing logistical support for those who choose to leave the country by land, offering assistance for routes through neighboring Jordan and Egypt. This multifaceted approach aims to ensure that all British nationals have safe and viable options to exit the region amidst the ongoing crisis.
