Foldable phones have been revolutionizing the mobile industry for several years, yet Apple has remained conspicuously absent from this innovative arena. Speculation about the launch of a foldable iPhone has been rampant, and now, new insights into Apple’s plans have emerged, shedding light on the device’s hardware specifications, production strategy, and intended market segment.
For those tracking Apple’s progress, the company aims to complete trial production of its foldable device by the end of 2025. Subsequently, the final rounds of product testing are scheduled for the first half of 2026. A recent leak suggests that Apple is setting an ambitious production target of approximately 7 million units for the initial release year. This goal signifies Apple’s intent to capture more than 30% of the foldable phone market.
The supply chain for the foldable iPhone includes prominent Taiwan-based companies such as Foxconn, TSMC, and General Interface Solution. With an anticipated retail price ranging from $2,000 to $2,500, the iPhone Ultra is clearly aimed at the premium segment of the market. It will be marketed as a distinct product rather than simply another member of the iPhone 18 series.
The iPhone Ultra is expected to boast several cutting-edge features, including a titanium alloy chassis and an innovative amorphous metal glass hinge, alongside a dual 48 MP camera system. The amorphous metal glass, particularly utilized in the hinge system, is noteworthy for its unique atomic structure, which provides exceptional durability compared to conventional metals. This material is reportedly 2.5 times harder than titanium, offering enhanced resistance to bending and impact damage, coupled with a gleaming, stainless-steel-like finish.
