The second season of the acclaimed series ‘Shōgun’, produced by FX and Disney+, is set to begin filming in Vancouver in January 2026. Based on James Clavell‘s acclaimed novel, the series, which is also available in Turkish, has been celebrated as FX’s most-watched project to date.
Emmy Award-winning actor Hiroyuki Sanada will reprise his role as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, alongside Cosmo Jarvis as John Blackthorne in the upcoming season.
Screen creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks will continue the saga ten years after the events of the first season, delving deeper into the intertwined destinies of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne, two individuals from vastly different worlds.
The first season unfolded in Japan in 1600, during a pivotal labor conflict. As we followed Lord Yoshii Toranaga’s life-or-death struggle against the Council of Regents, his fateful encounter with the British sailor, John Blackthorne, altered the course of his life.
Hiroyuki Sanada made history by winning the ‘Best Actor’ award, becoming the first Japanese actor to receive this honor. Anna Sawai also broke new ground, becoming the first Asian actress to win an Emmy for ‘Best Actress’.
The first season of ‘Shōgun’ has garnered praise from esteemed outlets like Time, Forbes, and Collider, lauded as “the best series of the year”, “a monumental masterpiece”, and “not only a re-adaptation but a discovery… a true masterpiece”. Anticipation for the new season is building, and fans can catch the series exclusively on Disney+.
