The StarCraft series, a cornerstone for strategy game enthusiasts, is poised for a remarkable comeback. Recent developments suggest that a new game might be on the horizon after many years of anticipation. In March, it was disclosed that Blizzard Entertainment was considering entrusting the development of a new StarCraft game to an external studio. This sparked interest, particularly among Korean gaming companies eager to secure the license. Ultimately, Nexon has emerged victorious in this competitive endeavor.

According to a report from South Korean news outlet MTN, Nexon has entered into an agreement with Blizzard to develop a fresh installment of the beloved StarCraft series. While an official announcement from Blizzard and Nexon has not yet been made, it is anticipated that confirmation will follow once all formalities are completed.

StarCraft and Mobile Overwatch: A Dual Launch

Reports from South Korean media also hint at a broader collaboration between the two companies. In addition to crafting a new StarCraft experience, Nexon will take on the task of distributing a mobile version of Overwatch. This game, tentatively named Overwatch 3, will see Nexon overseeing its release in markets such as South Korea and Japan.

While the new StarCraft game remains in the early stages, the mobile Overwatch project has been under development for some time. Initially, Blizzard had contemplated launching this mobile game alongside Overwatch 2, but those plans were eventually shelved. Nevertheless, the project continues to progress, and fans can expect more concrete updates soon.

Nexon has garnered attention in the gaming industry with successful titles like Dave the Diver, The Finals, The First Descendant, and The First Berserker: Khazan. The company is also recognized for its mobile gaming contributions, including EA Sports FC Mobile.
