With the upcoming release of Android 16, Google is set to deliver a much-anticipated feature for Pixel users. This enhancement, which has been a staple in Samsung’s One UI for years, will finally allow Pixel users to enjoy the convenience of a double-tap shutdown functionality. According to reports from Android Authority, this feature is now in the testing phase, as evidenced by the code found in Android 16 Beta 4.
Previously, Pixel devices offered a double-tap option for unlocking the screen, but there was no equivalent mechanism for turning it off. Users often had to rely on third-party applications to achieve this functionality. With the new Android 16 update, such external apps will become obsolete, as this capability will be natively integrated into the system. The full version of Android 16 is projected to be released in June, with the double-tap feature set to be a highlight of this update.
While the exact mechanics of the double-tap to shut down feature are yet to be detailed, it remains to be seen whether it will function solely on the lock screen or extend to the home screen as well. Apart from this anticipated feature, Android 16 is expected to introduce several other innovations. Among these is a new Control Page that is designed to work seamlessly with the Family Protection app, enhancing user control and security.
