Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund, the Prime Minister of Afghanistan’s interim government, extended an invitation to all Afghans who left the country, assuring them of their safety upon return. In his statement marking the occasion of Eid al-Adha, he emphasized that those returning would face no harm, stating, “Return to the lands of your ancestors and live in peace.”
He further mentioned that he has directed the authorities to provide adequate services and shelter for returning citizens, facilitating their reintegration. This call comes in the aftermath of significant emigration following the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan in 2021.
In a related development, on June 5, former US President Donald Trump imposed a travel ban on citizens from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, citing “threats to national security,” which has impacted Afghan expatriates seeking entry to the United States.
