On Friday, April 25, 2025, Tesla Turkey introduced the highly anticipated Tesla Model Y SR. This model remarkably fell into the 10 percent Special Consumption Tax (SCT) bracket, and the initial stock was completely sold out in a mere 6 minutes.
It was initially predicted that the tax-free price of the new Tesla Model Y would surpass 1.45 million TL. With a 40 percent SCT, the expected retail price ranged between 2.5 million TL and 3 million TL.
Due to its production locations in the US and China, the Tesla Model 3 is not available in the Turkish market. Consequently, only the Model Y is currently offered to Turkish consumers.
The new Tesla Model Y SR, subject to only 10 percent SCT, was launched at an attractive starting price of 1.909 million TL.
In Turkey, electric vehicles are taxed at different SCT rates of 10, 40, 50, and 60 percent, with an additional 20 percent VAT applied thereafter. Models falling under the 10 percent tax bracket are highly sought after. To qualify, these models must have an engine power below 160 kW and a tax-free price under 1.45 million TL.
The vehicles, offered at this competitive price, were entirely sold out within just 6 minutes.
The Standard Range version of the Tesla Model Y initially had a WLTP-certified range of 455 kilometers. However, with aerodynamic enhancements and a new 62.5 kWh LFP battery, this range has been extended to 500 kilometers.
Although the vehicle’s 220 kW engine is limited to 159 kW in Turkey due to tax regulations, the new model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 km/h. The redesigned model also boasts updates to the front design and interior.
The new Tesla Model Y features a design that minimizes air resistance. Inside, a newly styled steering wheel and an innovative center screen, accessible from the rear seats, are notable highlights.
The most significant upgrade in the new Tesla Model Y is the additional 45 kilometers of range provided by the new battery. According to WLTP standards, the updated Model Y can travel an estimated 500 kilometers on a single charge.
It was announced on April 25 that deliveries of pre-ordered vehicles would commence by the end of May, with new inventory expected soon. This anticipation was confirmed as Tesla Turkey made an official statement.
Officials from Tesla Turkey revealed that the Berlin factory would prioritize production for Turkey. “Berlin has given priority to Turkey in the production of the New Model Y SR,” the statement affirmed.
