The results of the Steam hardware and software survey for May have been unveiled, providing insights into user preferences and system configurations. NVIDIA continues to be the favored choice among gamers, with the GeForce RTX 3060 desktop version reclaiming its position as the most popular graphics card.
Valve conducts this survey on a monthly basis to gather data on the system specifications and device preferences of its user base. The information collected provides valuable insights into trends and shifts in the gaming hardware landscape.
According to the survey, the GeForce RTX 3060 ranks as the top choice for NVIDIA graphics cards, with 4.56% of the users opting for it. Following closely, the GeForce RTX 4060 for laptops holds a 4.46% share, while its desktop counterpart captures 4.26%.
In terms of operating systems, Windows 11 64-bit reigns supreme with a user base of 58.30%, trailed by Windows 10 64-bit at 37%. For Mac users, MacOS 15.4.1 64-bit leads with 0.69%, and on the Linux front, Arch Linux 64-bit garners 0.27%.
Memory preferences indicate that 43% of users have 16 GB of RAM, with 32 GB following at 33.75%, and 8 GB at 9.45%. When it comes to graphics card memory, 33.67% prefer 8 GB, while 12 GB and 6 GB are chosen by 18.83% and 11.48% respectively.
Regarding storage space, over half of the users (52.41%) favor more than 1 TB of storage. This is followed by the 750 GB – 999 GB range at 20.99%, and the 250 GB – 499 GB range at 17.91%.
Language preferences also reveal interesting patterns. English remains the dominant language at 38.24%, with Simplified Chinese at 24.12% and Russian at 9.03%. Turkish is the eleventh most popular language, accounting for 1.32% of users.
