Ömer Onan, Vice President of the Basketball Federation, talked about the activities they carried out in the earthquake region and said, "It has been exactly one year since the earthquake disaster that deeply affected our country and 11 provinces, especially Kahramanmaraş. As the Basketball Federation of Turkey, from the first moment of the earthquake disaster, we have made an intense effort to be with our citizens in all the cities affected by the disaster and to heal their wounds together. As both former national basketball players and basketball administrators of our country, we believe that the share of sports in the rehabilitation of our youth and children is very great."

Emphasising the importance of the courts for the spread of basketball in the region, Onan said, "As you know, we had previously completed the "Basketköy Project" implemented in cooperation with AFAD in the earthquake zone. We aim that this new court, built with the great contributions of Türkiye Sigorta, the title sponsor of the Basketball Super League and Turkish Basketball League and the main sponsor of the 3x3 Istanbul Cup, and located on the campus of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, will be of great importance for the spread of basketball in the earthquake zone and the promotion of sports among young people. I would like to thank the esteemed Rector of our university, Prof. Dr. Alptekin Yasım, for hosting this project and opening his doors to us, and once again to Türkiye Sigorta for their great contribution to Turkish basketball through this valuable cooperation."
